Melodrama about Belle, a young woman who abandons her husband when he becomes deaf and blind, and has her sister take care of him. The chemist John Rogers marries Belle, despite the fact that her older sister is truly the one who is in love with him. Belle is a frivolous type of person, and does not like her husband's work. When an explosion makes him blind and deaf, she leaves him. Because Belle's sister loves John, she takes her sisters place, and pretends to be Johns wife. After an eye operation, John is once again able to see, and the older sister tries to get Belle to come back, but then gets scared; she opens the curtains all in one go, so that John will remain blind forever.
